Enrolment continues to climb at Saskatoon Public Schools

More students continue to enrol in the Saskatoon Public School Division (SPSD), prompting the third consecutive year of enrolment increases in the division.

Since 2008 the number of students attending SPSD schools grew by more than 1,200 students. This year, the division experienced an increase of 480 students compared to last year’s enrolment. Total enrolment as of Sept. 30 is 21,297.

More than 200 of the newly enrolled students require the services of English as an Additional Language (EAL) teacher. The number of students in grades 1 through 12 requiring EAL support rose this month to 1,311 from 1,109 at the end of the last school year. Since 2009, the number of EAL students at the elementary level have quadrupled. The number of EAL students at the secondary level has tripled.

The French Immersion program also experienced an enrolment increase of 123 from 2010.
